Since 1994 I've been intending to get down to the Lithuanian Hall in SoWeBo for their annual "Night of 100 Elvises." Finally made it this year.

First of all, you should know that there weren't really 100 Elvis impersonators; only 31. They started doing their thing at 6 PM and the show went until 1 AM the next morning. I left at 11, having seen only the first 18.

Let's see. I saw the young Elvis, the old Elvis, the hairy Elvis, the bald Elvis. Oh yeah, also the Disabled Elvis, the Hispanic Elvis and Tony Dee, Baltimore's Black Elvis.

I saw the Female Elvis, the Jumpin' Elvis, Big El, Little El, the FrankenElvis, and Chris Presley.

I saw lots of others too, less memorable. Why I left at 11 (in addition to having had quite my fill) was because we were promised that all night long we wouldn't hear the same song twice. Well. At about 10:45 , just after the Towering Bouffants did their "Clam Bake" soundtrack medley, Mark Waddel (the Atlantic City Elvis) opened with "Blue Moon of Kentucky." But Tony Dee, Baltimore's Black Elvis also had performed that song. This was just too disappointing for me to handle. Why, I wondered, didn't he do, like, "I Forgot to Remember to Forget," or something else that no one had done. I figured the guy was running out of material and that this repetition marked the beginning of what might turn out to be a Night of 100 Redundancies. So after I finished my fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, I split.

I'm thinking I've had my share of the King for a while.
